Recovering from the TikTok Ban: Five Essential Steps for Your Business

The recent news about TikTok’s potential ban has left many businesses in a state of uncertainty. If you’ve built your brand on this platform, it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed. However, there are actionable steps you can take to recover and ensure your business remains resilient. Below, we’ll explore five essential steps to help you pivot from TikTok and build a sustainable email list that protects your business for the future.

1. Sign Up for an Email Service Provider

The first step in your recovery journey is to sign up for an email service provider. This is crucial because, without it, you cannot build an email list. Popular options include ConvertKit (now known as Kit), Active Campaign, and Mailchimp. These platforms not only house your email subscribers but also allow you to send welcome emails, promotional messages, nurturing sequences, and newsletters.

Having an email service provider ensures that you can maintain contact with your audience, even if your primary platform disappears. It’s your first line of defense against the unpredictability of social media.

2. Create Your Lead Magnets

Next, you need to create lead magnets. Yes, I said lead magnets, meaning you should develop a variety of them. This is essential because your audience will consist of individuals at different stages of their journey—some may be complete beginners, while others may be more advanced. To effectively engage these diverse groups, tailor your lead magnets to meet their specific needs.

Lead magnets can take many forms: mini-courses, templates, guides, ebooks, or even demos for SaaS companies. The key is to identify what type of lead magnet will resonate best with your target audience. While the task of creating multiple lead magnets might seem daunting, tools like Magnetify can simplify the process. Magnetify helps you create lead magnets efficiently, allowing you to focus on building your email list.

3. Develop a Landing Page for Your Lead Magnet

After you’ve set up your email service provider and created lead magnets, the next step is to develop a landing page. This page is essential for capturing email addresses and allowing users to download your lead magnets. If you’re using Magnetify, it comes with a built-in lead page. Alternatively, if you choose a service like Kit, you can create a simple sign-up page asking for names and email addresses.

Remember, your landing page doesn’t need to be overly complex. The goal is to get the basics right—collect names and email addresses to get your lead magnet into the hands of potential customers. Start simple, and you can always expand your funnel as you gain traction.

4. Tag Your Leads in Your Email Service Provider

One often overlooked step when building an email list is tagging your leads. Tagging helps you categorize your subscribers based on their interests and the lead magnets they downloaded. For instance, if someone signed up for a beginner-level lead magnet, you wouldn’t want to bombard them with advanced content that may not be relevant to them.

Implementing a tagging system allows you to tailor your marketing messages effectively. For example, if you have a lead magnet for weight loss, tag those who downloaded it as “Weight Loss Interested.” This way, you can send targeted content that aligns with their interests, increasing the chances of engagement.

5. Promote Your Lead Magnet

Now that you have your lead magnets and landing page set up, it’s time to promote them. With TikTok no longer an option, consider platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest. However, my top recommendations are YouTube and Pinterest. Why? Because these platforms function as search engines, meaning your content can be discovered long after it’s posted.

As people search for specific keywords on Google, they can find your videos and posts from YouTube and Pinterest. While it may take some time to establish SEO on these platforms, the long-term benefits are significant. This strategy allows you to tap into organic traffic and grow your email list over time.

Additionally, don’t hesitate to cross-promote your content on other platforms like Facebook and Instagram. I’ve seen videos on YouTube and Pinterest gain traction months after posting, leading to consistent growth in my email list.

Be Patient and Stay Committed

These five steps will set you on the right path to recover from the TikTok ban. However, it’s essential to understand that building your email list and gaining traction will take time. Unlike TikTok, where you could post a video and see immediate results, transitioning to email marketing is a gradual process.

Be patient with yourself as you navigate this shift. Remember, if you’ve lost everything on TikTok, you’re starting from ground zero. But with persistence and commitment, you will build a robust email list that provides a sustainable way to communicate with your audience.
